Yesterday I had the opportunity to help prepare a young lady for one of the biggest nights in her life, Prom. Not to tell my age but I went to my prom almost 10 years ago and after my experience with her last night I wished my mom would have hired a Makeup Artist to make me look as beautiful as she did.
Due to my relative newness to Philadelphia along with being engrossed in school it has been hard for me to get the word out about my business. However, the Lord must’ve really knew how much I was wanting to start spread the news and while shopping in Target I happened upon a chance client. I was just looking to see what was new in the cosmetic aisle and she was picking up items so that she could do her daughters makeup for the prom. She noticed my makeup which was very light and natural that day and stopped me and started asking my advice on different products such as bronzers and foundations. After talking for a while and realizing what she was buying the makeup for I handed her one of my business cards and upon seeing that I was a makeup artist she put all the makeup back and said she would call me. The next day she was booked!
On Prom Day I arrived extra early so I could set up all my gear. However, I almost had a heart attack after I witnessed my
Glamcor rolling bag and light set go toppling down the steps as I was knocking on the door. The Makeup God’s were watching over me that day because I only suffered one casualty an eye shadow broke to pieces…he will be sorely missed (moment of silence).
Once inside I set up all my gear and got to work. Kahleemah’s mom requested she have a neutral eye and a bold lip and since I was there really early this gave me a lot of time to chat with the prom goer and her friend that was there watching.
I admit this was one of my funniest jobs. The girls kept me laughing as I applied the makeup. They joked about my southern accent and even taught me new “philly” slang while I taught them “south Carolina” slang. When all was said and done Kahleemah looked beautiful and her family couldn’t stop gushing about how even her skin was. I owe that all to taking Danessa Myricks class on Perfect Skin at The Makeup Show in NY and also watching her videos.

Thanks Sherry!!
I am actually a member of team foundation first, it just seems more natural that way, but her mom was concerned about the foundation and it rubbing off as they put the dress on since it was snug fit. So, I decided to go with the eyes first this time. It was also very hot in the house and so there was also concern about it melting off of her. I assured them that I would make sure to set the foundation with powder. I will def check out Ms. James's blog about foundation going first. Thanks for the tip!!
