Is the Editor of Cosmetically Challenged Really Cosmetically Challenged? Fighting Blotchy Skin

Without the makeup

Cosmetically Challenged…. Yep, that’s me. Why am I posting a picture of myself with no Makeup for the entire world to judge? Today I woke up and I noticed blotchiness all over my skin. My first instinct was to panic, I already have a skin disorder (mongolian spot) which I’ve had since birth and can not get rid of.I was terrified that something else could be going wrong with my face. Later this evening after doing some research and asking around I still had no definitive answer for why my face was becoming blotchy. It could be my pillow, it could be hormones, it could be something I ate. Maybe, I need to drink more water, but one thing for sure was that it’s here and I can either stick in my head in hole like an ostrich or I can acknowledge that it’s there and come up with a plan of action on how to fix it.

When running across skin issues sometimes are first instinct is to ask “How can I cover this up?”. The proper way to deal with this would be ask “How can I correct this?”. Of course, I could mix and match foundations and come up with the perfect coverage, but after all is said and done the problem still exsist. I’d still have blotchy skin. While I know I probably need to make an appointment with a dermatologist I’ve decied in the mean to  further investigate some skin correcting products that are on the market.

If you have a problem with blotchy skin, browse through these great products that I’ve found that have been touted to even out skin tone. For the budgetnista’s there are even a some below $20.00.

I like that your solution isn’t “how can I cover this up?” but “what is causing this?” Sometimes we get so caught up in covering any flaws we forget about the root cause and trying to prevent them from happening! I hope whatever is causing it clears up ASAP.

Awesome view point. That covering up an “issue” is a temporary fix. You are beautiful with/sans makeup. Also I’m not sure if you have joined my 30 days to Better Skin Challeneg by drinking 1.5-2L (8-9 glasses) of water a day. I have had some amazing results and drinking water definitely helps our skin. Cant wait to see what your further findings are!

Hey Mel! *waves* I love the post and I too am experiencing skin issues as far as an uneven skintone is concerned. Just wanted to add that I have been trying natural “solutions” and pure lemon juice on a cotton ball is one of them. It is supposed to help with discoloration by evening out your skintone. I have also implemented honey into my skincare regimen and though it has only been a week, my skin is feeling great! I do tend to pick at acne (nervous habit) which creates black marks on my face and I feel like you when it comes to temporarily fixing the issue by piling on makeup. Skincare is essential. Thanks for sharing!
