Red Heads have way more Fun! How I Acheived my Red Tresses

Several people have been inquiring about my hair color so I decided to let you guys in on how I achieved my red tresses. In January I was bored with my current hair status, it was a short TWA and I wanted something that would make me stand out a little more. I toyed with the idea of going to a Salon and having them add color, but being the frugal beauty lover on a budgetinista that I am I decided I would attempt it on my own. Couldn’t be too hard right?  So, I went to my local CVS and perused the hair color aisle and decided upon Soft Sheen Carson’s Honey Blonde Hair color. I wanted to go lighter but not platinum blonde light.

To make a long story short, I didn’t do the strand test, I never do those, who has time to test one strand a hair. I’m a live in the moment type person, just do it and live with the consequences later, besides.. it’s just hair right?  After I applied the color I waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing was happening, so I sat under my soft bonnet dryer to add some heat and I waited, and waited some more. Finally an hour into processing I saw my roots start to change colors. About 20 minutes my roots were starting to become vibrant reddish orange color while the remainder of my hair was a reddish brown. I decided to end the process at this point since I was tired of waiting. After washing the color from my hair this is the end result. Notice the blonde roots around my edges!

So while I didn’t get my Honey Blonde, I did get a cool reddish Brown Color that I loved. After a couple of washes the color of my hair started to look really dull. No matter what I did it just didn’t have that vibrant red sheen to it. I decided that I would finally use the coveted Caca Rouge Henna from Lush Cosmetics. I do Henna Treatments all the time, so I was glad that I could get a protein treatment and a hair color all in one.

This bar comes with 6 pieces. Since my hair was shorter I only used three of the six and ended up having a good bit left over. I applied the Henna and let it sit for 3hrs. My hair color after the Henna was beautiful! My hair was an array of various Red Hues, and in the sun it looked amazing

So that is how I achieved my lovely red locks.I have since re-lightened my roots using the Soft Sheen Carson Honey Blonde. I have not reapplied the Henna though I plan on doing that this weekend. Sometimes accidents breed success, in this case I’m just glad my hair didn’t fall out…, but it’s just hair right… Love your Naturally Red Hair? Check out How to Be a Red Head

Love your red hair! That’s crazy that a blonde color ended up red! But like you said, it’s a happy accident!!

I love your hair color Melody. I got my hair professionally highlighted once and the girl was talking on her cell so she forgot about me. My hair was orange. Not a good story but it’s my one and only.
