Fall is right around the corner and one of the first drug store brands to release their fall collection is Maybelline. According to Maybelline this Fall collection is not supposed to be released until September but Harmons, also known as the Bed Bath and Beyond beauty section, slipped up and put out the entire line early. Of course I already had my sights set on the purple lipsticks. Jewel toned colors are going to be huge this fall as we’ve seen already with the new Zoya Cashmere polishes. Shoutout to one of my instagram followers who clued me in on these even coming out. I snapped up all three purple lipsticks (there is one pink). Each lipstick retails for $5.49 but with my BB&B coupons i was able to get 20% off. They come in the same tubing as the vivids but purple. First impression of the lipsticks it that they appear moisturizing. Honestly I was hoping at least one would be a matte. The colors aren’t as dark as the magazine article from where I first saw them pictured them but I have them here swatched and ready to go for your viewing pleasure.
Please note! There are only two of each lipsticks per display! Why, beats me, but you’ve been warned!
I honestly believe that Lavender Voltage is the prettiest of the three. It is more of an electric lavender with blue undertones. As you can see the lipstick is very creamy and moisturizing. I highly suggest using a sugar scrub to get all the dead skin off your lips before using because it will show! This reminds me of Brazen Berry (pictured directly below) but you’ll notice Brazen Berry doesn’t have the blue undertones that this one does. I would also compare this to MACS Heroin (bottom), but just a bit sheerer.
Violet Intrigue is a sheer toned lipstick that leaves a hint of purple on your lips. I was really hoping for my color payoff but those with lighter lips may get better pigmentation. This color was a bit too sheer for me but it would work well with someone who just wants a hint of the color. This color is very reminiscent of Milani’s Uptown Mauve (pictured below) but slightly lighter.
Midnight Plum…I had such high hopes for Midnight Plum.. I really did. It looked gorgeous in the tube, but like all the other lipsticks that show as a deep purple in the tube they always fail to deliver. Midnight plum is a dark wine colored lipstick. It definitely fits for fall and paired with MACS night moth lipstick on the lips as a base and as a liner it would look great!. This lipsticks reminds me of MACS Soulfully Rich and Milani’s Black Cherry pictured below.
So what do you think of the new Maybelline Fall Runway Limited Edition 2013 lipstick collection? Does this make you want to walk the runway or just have a seat? Again, looking at the ads I expected so much more from this collection. Maybe one day someone will make that one purple lipstick I’m hoping for. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think!
